As the smoke fills my lungs.
The first September frost bites at my ungloved hands.
Reminds there was more I should have done.
Should I call my folks back home?
It’s not like I don’t care there’s just not much to say.
To make them very proud of their son.
I’ve been tracing back my footsteps when and where I had it wrong.
I can’t write without regret but I can try to sing along.
Cuz living in the moment can’t last long – when you’re treading water.
As our summer’s growing short.
We sat out there til midnight on the playground swings.

You had a couple kids and then you moved back north.
